All the following courses are taught at the Bloomsburg Chapter (119 E. Seventh Street, Bloomsburg, PA). Course fees include all materials, including textbooks. Class fees are non-refundable. Advance registration and payment are required, as class size is limited (filled on a first-come, first served basis). If you need to register for a class immediately, your best choice is to pay on-line to reserve your space. Schedule subject to change.

Bloomsburg Chapter Class Policies:

 

Payments: All classes must be pre-paid. We can not accept payment at the door unless arrangements are made is advance.

 

Refunds: No refunds unless class is canceled by the Chapter. We can not issue refunds for any other reason. If you register for the class make sure you can attend.

 

Class cancellations: Any class may be canceled by the “Chapter” for any reason. Participants will be notified at least 24 hours in advance of such cancellation (except when due to inclement weather). A new class will be scheduled at the first available time. All registered participants of the canceled class will be notified.

 

Transfers: You may transfer one class to another available class one time. Remember, if you miss your class no refunds will be issued.

 

Certificate Replacement: You may obtain a replacement certificate at the Chapter in which jurisdiction you took the course. There is a $5.00 fee. No exceptions. Cards must be current to be reprinted. Do not ask us to reprint expired cards.

 

Recommended Dress: Dress comfortably. Skills practice is done on the floor. Please, NO LIPSTICK for CPR classes – it damages the manikins.

 

Attendance: You must arrive on time. The instructor reserves the right to ask you to reschedule if you are late. If you do not attend and fail to notify us prior to class, there will be no refunds and you will have to re-register and pay for another class.

 

Person with special needs: Please call in advance to request any special needs, if you are expecting please consult your physician before registering for any classes.

 

Parking: Is available free of charge in the front and side of the building at 119 East 7th Street.

 

Confirmation of class: I will email a confirmation of the class as soon as it is confirmed by the instructor.

CPR/AED – Adult: #HSSFA107Purpose is to train lay responders to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults. Participants are required to pass written and skills testing to receive certification. Length of this course is approximately 4½ hours. Certification is valid for one year.

Fee: $35.00

CPR/AED – Adult Review: #HSSFA107R Individuals may participate in a review course up to 12 months after the expiration of their certificates. Students should review skills from a current text. Participants are required to pass written and skills testing to receive certification. Length of this course is approximately 2 hours. Certification is valid for one year. No participant’s material is provided for a review course.

Fee: $17.50

Standard First Aid: #HSSFA101 Purpose is to teach lay responders the knowledge and skills necessary to give care in an emergency, help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until medical help arrives. Participants must pass a written and skills test for First Aid certification. Length of this course is approximately 4 hours. Certification is valid for three years.

Fee: $30.00 

Standard First Aid Review: #HSSFA101R – Individuals may participate in a review course up to 12 months after the expiration of their certificates. Students should review skills from a current text. Participants are required to pass written and skills testing to receive certification. Length of this course is approximately 2 hours. Certification is valid for three years. No participant’s material is provided for a review course.

Standard First Aid with CPR/AED – Adult: #HSSFA404 Purpose is to train lay responders to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults. Provide the lay responder with the knowledge and skills necessary in an emergency to help sustain life and to minimize pain and the consequences of injury or sudden illness until professional medical help arrives. Participants must pass written and skills testing to receive certification. Length of this course is approximately 6½ hours. Certification for CPR/AED – Adult is one year and First Aid is three years.

CPR – Child and Infant: #HSSFA203 – Purpose is to train lay responders to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in infants and children. Participants must pass written and skills testing to receive certification. Length of this course is approximately 4½ hours. Certification is valid for one year.

Fee: $35.00

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer: #HSPRO101Purpose is to teach those with a duty to act (professional rescuers) the skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies. This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim of cardiac arrest. Length for this course is approximately 8 hours. Certification is valid for one year.

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Review: #HSPRO101R - Individuals may participate in a review course up to 12 months after the expiration of their certificates. Students should review skills from a current text. Participants are required to pass written and skills testing to receive certification. Length for this course is approximately 4 hours. Certification is valid for one year. No participant’s material is provided for a review course. You must bring your own pocket mask and book or you will be required to purchase one for this class.

Babysitter’s Training: #31400 –The purpose of the American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training course is to provide individuals, ages 11 – 15, with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or adult guardians. This training will help participants develop skills in leadership and professionalism; basic care; safety and safe play; and first aid. Length of course is approximately 8 hours. Certification for Babysitter's Training has no expiration.

Fee: $35.00           

Lay Responder First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor: #HSSFA801 – Designed for individuals who wish to teach basic –level First Aid and CPR/AED.  It is recommended that the Instructor Candidate enter this course with a current knowledge and current certification of Adult/Infant/Child CPR and First Aid and AED, be at least 16 years of age, and be able to successfully complete the pre-course session. Length of this course including Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) is approximately 20 hours.

Lifeguard Training: #HSAQU402 – Purpose of this course is to teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries. Length of this course is approximately 32 hours.

Prerequisites : Minimum age 15; swim 300 yards continuously; starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Certification Requirements: Attend all class sessions; demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities; demonstrate competency in the three final skill scenarios; correctly answer at least 80 percent of the questions in the three sections of the final written exam.

Certificate Issued and validity Period: Lifeguarding/First Aid: 3 years and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer: 1 year.
